I am so sick of city sieges. I’m not interested in the loot or the buggy/boring PvE. I’m not interested in the empty instances and I’m sure as hell not interested in the instances where a chain of players are quitting rather than fight full premade warbands, which of course leaves those of us that stay in with no chance at all.

The next patch might mean when the city is captured I can go find some oRvR, but as most sieges don’t go beyond the contested stage, most times I log in there will still be an hour and half of tedious crap. I’m utterly bored of it now.

Frustrating thing for me is the week before I was having a really good time in WAR, but this week has been hideous.

  1. On Iron Rock the experience has been a bit different. Surely, city sieges for both realms are still running rampant. Without the Forts or some other speed bump, the locking of zones makes it rather easy to lock a pairing.

Both Order and Destro manage their five-day lockouts for actual pushes. Basically, you know when one side or the other is really making a push. I've never seen zones flip so quickly for Order when we are all organized ... and I mean all of us. There are several alliances who work together for the same goal. Last week we registered 6 different king kills. Many Order pushes are during the week and surprisingly our population is quite high even into the wee hours of the night. For me, this is a killer as I have to get up for work the next day. Why can't we reach Stage 2 at like 9 p.m. or something? LOL

Destro won't stand for this and they fight back, but it seems their population is more dominant later in the week and over the weekends. Last Thursday and Friday Destro made serious efforts to get to Stage 2. On both occasions Order stepped up to stop them. Friday night I was in an Altdorf instance where we didn't win one PQ but held them off long enough with the other instances efforts that Stage 2 was missed. Even though they won the PQ each time, I haven't had that much fun in a city siege in a long, long time. We were outnumbered but by using guerilla tactics we kept Destro on their toes and made winning the PQs take far longer than they'd have liked. Finally on Saturday morning, they pushed again and got to Stage 2 (killing Karl Franz a few times, I am told which reduced Altdorf to one star).

It's apparent that when they want to, both sides have the capabilities of getting to Stage 2 ... it just depends upon when they want to do it and how the opposition feels. Organization is the key as well as a willingness to work together.

Like you, I am a bit fed up with the constant sieges. I accept them more now that they are fairly even as opposed to back in September when Destro rolled us every which way till Sunday. Balance aside, this endgame is a tough one to figure. Before it was nearly impossible to reach. Then it got a bit easier but was still a stretch. Now it's far too easy. How do you make it more accessible without making it too easy? I can't speak for other MMOs but is there any other one out there where its endgame requires such a concerted effort by all playing to reach the endgame? If Order isn't working together ... no endgame.

I am hoping that the reopening of the RvR campaign when Stage 2 is reached is only a precursor to something bigger. We could see a literal ping-pong match of city sieges when this goes live. No sooner does one side complete their siege the other side has pushed to the opposite city. Has any city in the history of mankind been this easily sieged? Other glimpses are them mentioning a more RvR focus to Stage 2 so we'll have to wait and see.

So many questions, theories, etc. Perhaps a return of the Forts with Relics or some such. Maybe finally adding the missing capital cities would do something. The game has improved so much since launch I'd hate to see those efforts be wasted with so many open-ended items.

Sorry for the long post but was a lot to say ...

  2. I think this is the biggest challenge for WAR to survive and thrive- the original/current vision for the endgame of funneling towards massive city sieges is inherently restrictive and limiting of (PvP) playstyle options and character progression. Not only do scenarios and oRvR get shut down during a siege, but the only way I can obtain the highest gear and nominal pinnacle of character progression is via the warlord and king encounters, which I as a player (or even as a guild) have relatively little to no control over access to. This loss of "control" is IMO why WARs endgame failed to meet expectations, and why a lot of people have fond memories of DAoCs (you never had to participate in a relic raid, and doing so or not didn't limit your play options or character progression). This is a design flaw that would have still been present even if there were 3 realms btw.
